Duane Jones, Clinical Counseling Intern

Duane Jones is a compassionate and committed counseling intern, currently in pursuit of his Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health from Lancaster Bible College Capital Seminary and Graduate School (LBC). Currently, Duane has a post-graduate degree in Christian Care, formally called Pastoral Counseling, from LBC, which has allowed him to work as a chaplain at MedStar Washington Hospital Center for the past four years.

Duane is also an honorably discharged veteran who served for 15 years, including two combat deployments to Iraq. He has always had the desire and the heart to help others; however, it was his military and post-military experiences that inspired him to pursue an occupation in the helping profession. Upon completion of his degree and obtaining licensure, Duane desires to provide services for veterans suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and addiction.

Duane utilizes various therapeutic approaches to help others, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy (SF), and reality therapy (RT). His experience as a chaplain in a hospital setting has allowed him to develop professional relationships with a diverse group of individuals. Duane relies on his non-judgmental presence, empathetic and active listening skills, and sense of humor to connect with others.

Duane is a lifelong learner from Prince George’s County who spends his personal time listening to music, cooking, playing cards, and playing or watching basketball and football. He also serves on the board of Change-180, a youth organization based out of Freetown, Maryland dedicated to providing young people with education, opportunity, and mentorship.
