Joanna Herrington is a Licensed Certified Social Worker Clinical (LCSW-C) who graduated from the University of Maryland School of Social Work with a mental health concentration. Before joining Anne Arundel Counseling, she worked as an outpatient psychotherapist at Key Point Health Services and then as a mobile treatment psychotherapist at QCI Behavioral Health. In addition to her profession, Joanna wrote an article for a book called Addictions Treatment: A Strengths Perspective, about reactions to trauma in the military.
Joanna is a person-centered therapist who takes an eclectic therapeutic approach to working with individuals and groups across multiple populations such as veterans, active-duty military, police, court-mandated, teenagers, and adults. Additionally, she is one of Anne Arundel Counseling’s forensic clinicians who conducts attorney or court-mandated mental health evaluations, runs groups for the MD State Certified DWI/DUI Program, and individual treatment programs for theft prevention, personal growth, and wellness programs for police officers, and parenting education. She is also a Social Work Board-Approved Supervisor and a Board of Professional Counselors-approved supervisor.
Joanna’s areas of expertise are anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD, PTSD, trauma, OCD, adjustments, bereavement/grief, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders. She also utilizes multiple therapeutic techniques based on the person’s need which include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, solutions-focused, strength-based, trauma-focused, exposure, conflict resolution, separation/divorce, parenting, relationship/communication, self-esteem-building, social skills, and anger management.
Joanna is a dedicated clinician who chose a career in mental health to help people overcome obstacles and improve their quality of life.
