It is wise to take immediate action if you have received a DWI/DUI. As a first time offender or a repeat offender, whether you are hopeful for Probation Before Judgment (PBJ) or hopeful to avoid incarceration, enrolling in a MD State Certified DWI/DUI Education or Treatment Program is an essential step. By participating in this program, your action will demonstrate that you are a concerned citizen who is proactively making amends for the offense and learning from your behavior.
All individuals referred are seen by one of our professional licensed staff members who evaluate and diagnose a client’s presenting problems. Based on the evaluation the most appropriate treatment program is chosen for dealing with the client’s situation.
A number of treatment programs are available. A 6-week alcohol and drug education group is available for those assessed as “social drinkers”. A 26-week alcohol and drug treatment group is available for those who are assessed as substance abusers or chemically dependent. In addition, repeat offenders, within a 10 year period, must be placed into a 26-week treatment group, per MD State Requirements. These groups meet once weekly during day and evening hours, Monday through Saturday. Individual sessions are also available for both, education & treatment, as well as other mental health counseling services and personal growth opportunities.
We also offer an outpatient weekend intervention program. The goals of the intensive outpatient DUI Weekend Intervention Program (DUI-WIP) are to provide a structured outpatient setting where clients can focus on: intense alcohol/drug education, increase one’s awareness of the consequences of use/abuse, motivating them to take personal responsibility for their risky actions and make a commitment for change. Specifically, the programs comprehensive curriculum will be guided by researched based effective programming with an emphasis on motivational interviewing and moral recognition therapy. Interactive discussion, peer teaching, literature review, role play/group work, guest speakers, viewing materials and more will guide clients through the program. They will be educated about the dangerous situations they have been involved in and supported in making the changes that must occur to keep them and other drivers safe on the road. 18 hours of educational, impactful and meaningful learning.
